The question on the title is not rhetorical. If you have ever been a victim of an auto accident, then you know how impactful and painful it can be. Not only for the person that had the accident, but also for the family members of the injured. Because of this, it is imperative that the proper steps be taken, in order not to worsen the situation. As I write this blog, I remember my very fist accident. Although it was not my fault, I was hit by an incoming car when his light was read. In other words, the driver ran the red light. What a nightmare it was. Not only did I loose the car that I was driving, I almost lost my best friend as a result of this person's negligence. I remember going to the emergency room with my dead wound bleeding and my broken leg. What kept me from hurting at that time was, the fact that my best friend was next door fighting for his life. In an instance, my life and my friend's life were at risk, and for what, simply because the driver was not paying attention.
After I found out that my friend was going to be ok, then I started to hurt. This phenomena is called shock. When you are a victim of an accident, your adrenaline kicks in, in order to keep you alive. This is also called the "fight flight" response. After all is settled, your body goes back to normal, and that is when all hurts. This happens 100% of the time during and after an auto accident. Because of this, many people may select not to get treated by medical providers immediately after an accident. In some cases, this is not advisable. If the injury is one of severity, your body need to recover and get treated as soon as possible. This is also not always possible. After the auto accident, a person should seek medical attention as soon as possible. In my case, I was lucky enough that my injury was severe and my friend and I were transported to a medical facility; otherwise, I could have ended up with permanent disabilities. Since I don't want anyone to go through what I went, that is why I am writing this post.
All my friends know that if they are ever involved in an auto accident, they need to take several steps to protect them. All my friends have downloaded a free application that can guide them if they are ever victims of an auto accident. Not because they need to be guided, but because they need to be protected from the insurance companies that will not play fair with the unrepresented. My first auto accident helped me understand that, all pains are not created equal. The pain that I had in my head was not as severe as the one that I had on my back, and definitely not more than my neck. In essence, when you have an auto accident, many areas of your body can be affected. This is why is so important to get medical evaluation. To the unrepresented, the insurance company will only pay for minimal, not for the entire pain and suffering. You don't want to get in the middle of their games. They will not pay you!
Although that was not my only accident, it is one that I will remember forever. I do not wish anyone of you to have an accident, but if you have an auto accident, please get help.
